coccidioidomycosis
Histologic Features
- An ulcerated epidermis
- A dense, diffuse suppurative granulomatous process involving the lower dermis and subcutis with numerous foamy histiocytes, neutrophils, plasma cells and some eosinophils
- Extensive hemorrhage and necrosis with exudation
- Coccidioides spores of varying sizes up to 40 microns in diameter showing a double thickness wall and a granular cytoplasm.
- Larger spores showing endospores
