Histologic Features
- A basket-weave cornified layer
- Many individual necrotic keratinocytes surrounded by eosinophils especially prominent towards the basal layer
- Vacuolar alterations of the basal layer
- Subepidermal vesiculation or clefting
- Extensive edema of the papillary dermis
- Large numbers of melanophages deep in the papillary dermis
- A superficial and deep perivascular lymphocytic infiltrate with many eosinophils
