herpetic folliculitis
Histologic Features
- A dense perifollicular and perivascular infiltrate consisting of lymphocytes, histiocytes, with a few eosinophils and neutrophils
- Infiltrations of the follicular epithelium with inflammatory cells resulting in disintegration and necrosis of the epithelial cells
- Enlarged infected epithelial cells showing basophilic greyish nuclei with margination of the nucleoplasm
- Multinucleated giant epithelial cells
- Diffuse necrosis and hyalin depositions around the follicles
