lepromatous leprosy
Histologic Features
- A thin epidermis
- A zone of normal collagen beneath the epidermis
- Multiple elongated sharply demarcated tubercles of varying sizes and shapes at all levels of the dermis
- Many large and foamy epithelioid histiocytes, showing basophilic gray granular material in the cytoplasm
- Neural infiltration
- Globi containing innumerable lepra bacilli demonstrated by the Fite stain
